“What do you want your grandchildren to know about who you really are?”
I think my grandchildren believe I came into the world already sixty-five years old, standing at a stove with an apron on. So here is the truth: I was reckless once. I rode in the back of pickup trucks. I snuck into a drive-in theatre in Camrose with three friends folded under a blanket in the back seat, and we laughed so hard we got caught anyway.
What I want you to know is that I was shy for a long time — all through school, really. Teaching was how I found my voice. Thirty-one years of Grade 3 students taught me that everyone is scared of something, and the bravest thing you can do is the thing you're scared of, done anyway, one small piece at a time.
And I want you to know I loved your grandfather loudly and argued with him loudly too, and both of those things kept us going for fifty-two years. Love isn't quiet, whatever the movies say. It's loud and it's work and it's the best thing I ever did.

Sunday cinnamon buns. I've made them every Sunday since 1971 — through two houses, one apartment, and the year the oven broke and I baked them at Velma's next door. Everyone in this family has tried to make them. Sarah's are close. Emma's are close. Nobody's are right, and I've decided that's on purpose.
Warm the milk until it's just past lukewarm — if it's too hot it kills the yeast, which I learned the hard way in 1974 with company coming. Two teaspoons of cinnamon to the brown sugar, not one and not three. And you have to let them rise twice. Twice. The second rise is the one everyone skips and it's the whole secret.

A Note From the Founder
MyGenLink did not begin as a software project.
It began with a question.
Over the years, I became increasingly aware that many of our most important memories now live on platforms we do not own and do not control. Family photos, stories, conversations, milestones, and pieces of our personal history are often stored inside systems designed primarily for advertising, engagement, and growth.
That realization stayed with me.
Not because I believe technology is inherently bad. Quite the opposite. Technology has made it easier than ever to capture and share moments with the people we care about.
But I began to wonder: What would a platform look like if it were designed around a different principle?
What if family memories were treated as a legacy rather than content?
What if ownership mattered more than engagement?
What if families could preserve their stories without worrying about advertising, data mining, or whether a future policy change might alter how their memories are used?
